Sometimes, walking away from love is exactly what we need to do...
Sangria, Sunsets and Second Chances
The debut novel by lifelong globetrotter, Loist Abarta, is coming April 1st, 2026.
On the eve of a picture-perfect wedding to her college sweetheart, twenty-two-year-old Brynn Pennington does the unthinkable—she panics and runs.
Using her honeymoon airline ticket, she flees the life carefully planned for her by family expectations, and boards a plane to Spain with nothing but a suitcase, a shattered engagement, a haphazard plan to study Spanish, and a desperate need to discover who she is beyond the roles she’s been groomed to play.
Amid Salamanca’s golden plazas, winding streets, and late-night cafés, Brynn tastes freedom for the first time—drinking sangria, salsa dancing, and bonding with classmates. But reinvention is never simple. As new friendships, unexpected romance, and long-buried truths surface, she endures a devastating experience that forces her to question whether her newfound independence is worth the cost. Only after leaving Spain to spend a summer working at a beachfront café on the sun-drenched shores of Mykonos does she begin to find her path forward.
Twenty years later, Brynn must confront the impact of her choices. Had she truly been given a second chance at lasting love, or will she always be haunted by what might have been? Sangria, Sunsets and Second Chances is a richly emotional coming-of-age adventure about courage, heartbreak, and the brave, messy act of choosing yourself. Perfect for readers who love women’s fiction infused with romance, travel, and the transformative power of starting over.
